Yours is far and away the best tennis commentary now being published. Could the dropped perfume bottle be a Freudian slip?

What makes me happy? To read your commentary. A delight!!

I suppose how you are in the locker room is how you are in life. I enjoyed the line about “collecting” the win 😁

I literally gasped when I read the paragraph about the perfume.

I am sorry that you lost your perfume. I Have just checked on my old favorites which I seldom use. Arpeggio of when I was young and Rive Gauche when I was journeying around europe and living with my husband and 4 young children. I am no longer in need. I am old,

The locker room still is really the best,

How? How did you drop that bottle? Seems impossible for a professional athlete of flair an elan to suffer such a disaster. Did Cobolli walk past you in the parking lot?

i just arrived in london and i desperately need new book recs! what have been your ‚complicated looking pieces of literature‘ in the locker room? also, just so you know, i’m pitying you for your devastating fragrance loss 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I thought about how the locker room on the top level of tennis would be like. Now I know thanks to your wonderful and precise descriptions of it

How long before they have TV cameras in the locker rooms? Things can always get worse.

Great commentary on the locker room vibes. Glad that you can now think of it as a room full of sisters! sorry about the perfume....

Your perfect description seems to nail it, though I wonder if players other than you were reading anything at all?

My impression is that the ear buds everyone wears have trained people to relax in public with their bubble face that says 'I don't see you, I won't hear you, you weren't nearby my world where you don't - by the way - even exist.'

I wish ear buds had existed when I was in my first year at an all male boarding school. Some guys could make you want to take a long detour to avoid passing them for fear they would scare you s***less with a sudden feint at you or leave you speechless with a scornful remark - 'What's bugging you B**face?'

In contrast, during my prior years on the Florida junior tennis tour in the 60s, after a match (win or lose), you went to the card table, the swimming pool or the backboard to play with opponents and partners as if nothing had happened. The tension began and remained on the court. No one in my experience got psyched out in these venues. And there were no locker rooms.

In the very few national competitions back then you didn't know everyone and it wasn't as much fun. There reputations mattered, and there was some real swagger. If you weren't a rookie, you also knew your place as a nobody.

You had to have ambition to want to succeed at that level.

While I do not feel epicaricacy ( look it up, why use a foreign word when we already have the exact same word auf Englisch), those who are sensitive to fragrances are secretly rejoicing. Very few people know how to wear fragrances, I hope you are among them (a little bit goes a long way).

Auf wiederlesen ( is this even a word?! I won’t see you or hear you next week, but I’ll ganz bestimmt read you!) 🤣🤣

Well Andrea, you have split the beans about the locker room and your $350 scent all in a very short space of time! Serous tension zone that locker room, no wonder some players come out and are so flat compared to how they warmed up.
