I was at the qualies today and I was left broken hearted by Taylor Townsend. There was one guy who was absolutely happy, as every thirty seconds, he yelled out, "Let's go Da-SHA!"I I have nothing against Daria Saville, I'm glad for her, but I was pulling for my fellow American...
At least I got to watch Le Monf practice against Holger. Heart mended!
Final day of qualies at RG reminded me of how the final day of qualies at USO used to be: quieter and for the hardcore fans. I hope it will remain this way. 🗼🎾
P.S. In a span of fifteen minutes, I walked by Alize Lim, Mats Wilander, and Mary Joe Fernandez on the grounds!
That is a shame -- Bencic has been playing so well, but I see she was up against Rybakina. Probably would've had a good chance against her, but yes, good for TT in the end! I knew she was in trouble when I saw how many first serves she got in at the end of the first set, when she was leading 5-2. Unless I miscounted, it was zero. She still managed to close it out, but just barely...
My indie pick on men's side will be Zverev vs Tien. I know that Tien hasn't had the best clay swing buuuut, he can seriously be a surprise for big hitters. Also, he already defeated Zverev this year in Acapulco. It can also go the other way around and be a easy 1R for the german. Triple bagel jajajaja. Great post as always Andrea :)
A match featuring last years finalist and #3 seed can hardly be called an Indie pick. That said, it'll be an interesting match for sure because of their history. I neither expect a triple bagel nor a Tien upset but Sascha in 3 or 4 sets max.
You might not have deserved any better with the Carbonara, but did you deserve any butter?
It's crazy to see stuff like the first Badosaka, Tsitcheverry or a Fonsekacz in a first round! And the matches highlighted here are only a sample of all the potential bangers in the draw!
Another post that elicits chuckles in me many times with Andrea's original writing style and flair. Also a highlight to so many matches I now wish to watch and did not even think about before. Many proper Carbonaras to you this week.
Lovely turns of phrase and twists of plot as always, Andrea. Most enjoyable to follow your mind through the writing journey. Always wonder: Do you find it easier and more expressive to write your observations in English or German?
Thanks for pointing out the true indie pick with Perricard vs Bergs on Court 14. Now with the alcohol ban in place you'd think it can't get crazy like the Goffin match last year, but with Zizou and his fans it will probably only get crazier! I expect a pretty convincing win for Zizou though, he is an aggressive and more complete player.
Tommy Etcheverry seems to be going up on clay. While I write this Tsitsipas is 2-0 in sets. He has beaten Tommy, but this might be other circumstances. Perhaps...parhaps...who knows?
Great again, dear Andrea, dear fur-wearing, cognac-drinking, real Carbonara-devouring, sometimes cowardly non-complaining complete opposite of insupportabile.

I think TT made the draw as a lucky loser! At the price of Bencic withdrawing, though

Taylor Townsend's first round match as lucky loser will be against Italian player, Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

Yes, I am interested in that question as well. If Joseph Conrad could do it so can you and he was a bum.😉

What's your bold prediction for Roland Garros? I go first, Iga won't make it to 2nd week 🤓
That's bold. My bold prediction will be a new Grand Slam champion (women's side)
👀
+1 on the carbonara topic!! 🤌🤌🤌 che cazzo!?

Wonderful, as usual. Andrea, I have a 100% win rate at tennis tournaments, well, tournament. Ask me and I will tell all. Wes
