Your vivid essay is the perfect antidote to the post-Wimbledon letdown blues! I love your creative phrase-making, allusions (from the Dalai Lama to the Chili Peppers) and insights into the players, their preparation, the events, and the tour cycle ("summer break...before the American lights take over and the players' joints go under"). You're the most interesting tennis writer right now, by far. Looking forward to your discussion of Amanda and Grigor!

What a perfect summary of these two weeks full of strawberry pasta, Iga and Jannik🍓

I’ve read your witchy prediction weeks ago and since then I kept telling everyone who’d listen that Andrea Petkovic and me both believe Iga will win Wimbledon this year and there are birds to prove it! What a win and a moment for Iga and all us Polish fans.

Andrea, I always wait for your newsletter as I used to wait for my favourite weekly show as a kid (I was very committed) and just know that last week's newsletter was dearly missed.

Also, you're so funny and you make tennis commentary so engaging. Please don't even go bald🙏

On another note, your falcon superstition was so accurate. It was majorly the one thing that made hoping Iga won so much easier. Keep them coming please

But but but! We need to know whether playing the invitational was a thing that made you happy or unhappy. You certainly _looked_ happy telling your partner to chase after the balls, but maybe there was a tinge of sadness for the ineffable way people always lob us when we want to hit a volley.

Ahhh! You've come back to us! Lovely post. I really enjoyed watching you play in the invitational with Kirstin Flipkins. Your serve-volley technique is still formidable, and the soft touch and highlight-reel shots coming off Kirstin's racquet were joyous! Those matches have to fall into the category of things that make you happy. In real time, that happiness was very apparent. Looking forward to Friday's post.

Who will bring me the time I spent last week checking on Petko’s new article that - eventually - was never published. But hey, it is finally there and as excellent as they always are. Great takes on Iga and Jannik, Andrea! 🤌🏻

This prediction that Swiatek will win Wimbledon is the prediction of the tournament!!

How did you recognize the falcon circling above iga? 😂

Also Sinner improved his serve sooo much! I felt he had one of the highest first serve won percentages throughout his career during this Wimbledon. And second serves won percentages as well best in his career?

Great writing here. The champions photo and your write up of it captures both tennis’s and life’s dream of dreams.

I wondered if you’d turn up for ESPN commentary but figured you’d being doing it for the German audience. Siegemund was a disrupter in the best way, creating contrasts in tennis styles with the likes of Aryna. Fritz found his groove after beating Mpeteshi Perricard. The slams are always a feast to watch but with too much on the menu.

Ash Barty was arguably the most likeable while enigmatic #1 player in recent history. Her game combined the power of Serena with the guile, finesse, and strategy of a Jabeur. She easily beat Iga, admittedly when Iga was quite young, but in big events. I'd love to hear your comparison of these two.

"Paradoxically, the fact that Jannik lost the French Open final made him win Wimbledon."

You could replace "Jannik" with "Iga" and add "semi" in front of "final" and it would work quite well. Funny how their fates were kind of intertwined? Tennis, you vexer...

Great analysis about Iga's shortened takeback. I imagine she'll fine tune that even more for the upcoming and final major of the year. Six now for Iga, five for Carlos, four for Jannik. Each one missing a piece to complete the career GS. Who will get there first? It'll be exciting to see. And meanwhile, the rest of the field will hopefully pick up whatever scraps are left. Tennis, calculatingly cruel, as always.

Ah, you say we didn't notice the missed newsletter, but you are wrong. The week suffered without it but, again, you write with such knowledge and clarity that all is fine. Thank you for all you write.

"Every time Jannik entered the stage it was like the ghost of an old Roman stoic spoke through his freckled, little body. Accepting one’s fate, going back to nature in times of need and the attempt of looking at hard things (like losing that French Open final or the suspension) rationally. Only he can answer whether he’s able to integrate these notions into his life all the time. But the evidence at hand suggests that indeed he can."

That also struck me over these last several days -- not just Sinner, but Alcaraz, too, and Swiatek and Anisimova. They're all so young, yet seem so wise and well-adjusted. Maybe you have to learn to be that way to survive and succeed as a tennis player, but I feel like players used to have that sort of wisdom at the ends of their careers -- not so close to the beginnings.
