Loved reading your book "Zwischen Ruhm und Ehre liegt die Nacht" and just saw that you started a newsletter, as well! Looking forward to reading Finite Jest!
Another great article. One of my favourite memories of Kerber is when she won a match on clay (can’t remember where), and stayed to sweep the court with the big brush.
Also: she played my (boss’s boss’s) boss once - and stroked his ego by letting him win.
What a great analysis of your dear friend Angie that you have written, Andrea. Just a great dive into the game, personality and how the tennis journey goes. Also: I've read that essay collection too. Indeed, the essay on LA light is fantastic. Look forward to more of your pieces and when can I read your book in English?
American Journals. Written in the late in 1950's it details Camus first trip to North & South America.
He writes in beautiful detail his first impressions of NYC - "the sound of the lonely tugboats in the harbor" and the sounds of samba in the streets of Rio De Janiero".
When I think of the best counterpunchers, I think of Angie and Andy. The Andy Murray of the women's game. The Angie Kerber of the men's game. Both reached number 1, both have 3 majors.
You know what makes me happy? That they are both still playing. ❤️
Did I once hear you say, “If I could do what I wanted right now, I would be a dancer in Las Vegas.” If that was you, it previewed the ironic sense of humor that underlies your wonderful writing.
Nice writing as usual. I still remember a match live in a court side at Roland garros against Muguruza..that was a fight ! Muguruza finally won at the fifth set
Things that Make me Happy: your vivid, engaging and thoroughly entertaining writing.
Nice one! I saw Angie Kerber at that US Ooen in 2017 and noted how she stayed 10 minutes after her match to sign autographs. Earl Grey is the best!

I enjoyed reading and will think about Arnold’s philosophy with a cup of coffee (hot! It’s cold and rainy outside)
It's so cool and insightful to read how you experienced the matches, especially the ones a really long time ago. Takes us back.
Du schreibst so schon auf Englisch! Fabelhaft! Toll.
