I may have laughed out loud at the photo where your sartorial choices have seemingly converged with that of a 5-year old boy. Glitch in the Matrix methinks 😂

Such a great piece!! You're the best writer I've read of any tennis players I have ever met or even heard of! (including my ex... who fantasized about going pro, and was -- maybe is, still -- a writer.)

i‘m going to try and take this as a compliment 😂

It is definitely a compliment. (The ex was a highly successful writer.) I happen to know a lot of tennis players (none of them professional) who are writers. Your pieces have the wit and grace and complicated understanding that I love.

King's On Writing is the best memoir for writers and creatives. My copy is beat to hell, too.

As a writer who travels a lot (bookstores, schools, conferences, etc.), I try to stay present and block out any homesickness. Immersing oneself in local culture (the food, definitely) is vital. I try to remind myself it's a gift to be out there, roaming. And I've worked so hard for this to happen. Might as well ask for as much free hotel coffee as possible :)

Stay curious.

Very nice — I read this post in the parking lot of John King Used & Rare Books in Detroit (crazy book store in an old glove factory) and managed to find the Stephen King On Writing among the stacks of books 10 minutes later. Thanks for the assist! 📚👍

What a great post! I loved every bit of it and laughed multiple times. Thanks for sharing what life on the road is like - I love the insights into the day-day-day life of a tennis pro - and I will be definitely downloading the Time shifter app before my next long haul trip.

I always save your newsletters for a time where I can savor them instead of reading them quickly while multitasking. And you never disappoint! Thank you for the Timeshifter app rec. I'm traveling to Europe (from US) for the first time this spring and am so excited!

Thank you for this. Even though I’m not traveling anytime soon, I needed this today. Well, like Maddie Keys, I didn’t need it, but I wanted it.

Hey, Petko! Wonderful to hear that you like Stephen King's process. I grew up a couple blocks from his house, went to the same university, and have two good friends who live directly across the street from him. Like you, he is generous, kind, fun, and fearless. He and Tabitha have rebuilt two old classic local libraries into spectacular show pieces for books and reading. E.B. White is another Maine author who wrote extensively on writing, and cuts to the heart of it, like King. "Writing is easy: you just sit at a keyboard until blood pours from your forehead."

Sigh, I travel for work. I tend to order room service and read. I am going to follow your advice and go outside more.

Reading you for the first time, and what a pleasure it was. And to think, English is your second language(or maybe third) language! Thank you Andrea.
