You stole my comment! That's a brilliant sentence! And, a wonderful analysis of Serena. As someone fairly new (5 years?) to the sport, it's fun to read such respectful tributes to some of the lesser known players and spend the weekend down the YouTube!
When I saw Giorgi's name, before reading the text below, I was sure that you would say you hated playing her because of her mom's wack dresses and her nutso dad in the stands. Stood a couple feet from the Radwanska girls while they practiced at a 1000 event and Aga was truly a magician with a racquet; not far from a Bahrami. Last, while you possess spectacular bone structure in every portrait, this one that includes your wrist is shocking; when your forearm transitions into your hand, you're supposed to have the aforementioned wrist, but, no, you have none, just a hefty club of muscle. Well written and fun, as always! Thank you!
Now, I think you should do a column on tennis players you owned. If I remember correctly, I think you beat Venus many times at Wimbledon. How did you do it?
And, yes, Fonseca vs Tien was a great match. Draper beat him handily at Indian Wells, showing that variety and a killer serve helps.
Great article, especially the descriptions of 2 of the players i enjoyed watching, Aga and Queen Moni Slicelescu, she was a great player with unique style, I wish more players these days would use that slice more often, and what i also loved about this article is that there are no things that make you unhappy π€
Andrea - nightmares? Tonight I heard "Tommy Paul has a bit more shape on his balls". Were you dreaming that or do you have a direct source? Should we ask... π
Brava! And thanks to Chanda Rubin for asking the question! I remember watching Monica's matches and being frustrated that "real" tennis players might have to play someone who only ever hit junk. I am embarrassed by how much I wanted her to lose to ensure the integrity of the "real" game. Disrupters come in many forms to make tennis more interesting, and she was one of them.
Iβm addicted to your writing !!! And by the way .. you are too modest . Definitely one of my fav players to watch was you ! βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ
βThe tennis square opened up to her in ways your boyfriend could neverβ πππ

Can't wait for the list of people you just couldn't wait to play...
I'd like to see this, too!
Aga Radwanska was amazing!! I was at the Miami Open the day this happened: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGKIQ7ykNsU
Awesome! Her behind-the-back "no look" volley against Flipkens. Legend.
I remember that shot. She was awesome.

Love the lens you look through the world with! Rooting for all the wonderful parts of you that make you, You!
You are a killer funny woman, Andrea.
Love the Serena intel (and the pic) x

I loved watching Learner and Joao! Some of the more seasoned players could learn a lot from them.
Curious if you ever practiced with fellow German Tatjana Maria to prepare against Niculescu? I adore Tatjana's game - such a throwback. πππ
